HICT half-day workshop: pitching and presentation skills for doctoral candidates and researchers (1 ECTS)

How to increase the wider societal impact of ICT-related research? How to communicate your research to different audiences? What is included in an effective pitch presentation?

In case you have ever wondered about these kind of questions, this is your chance to learn more and meet other doctoral students and researchers from Aalto and the University of Helsinki!

If you also want to participate in HICT Pitch & Pizza competition event (with SLUSH tickets for the three best pitch presentations!) later in November, this is a great chance to polish your pitching skills!

HICT, the Helsinki Doctoral Education Network in Information and Communications Technology, organizes a science communication workshop for HICT doctoral students and researchers in Aalto University and the University of Helsinki.

Kaskas Media is a Finnish company specialized in science communication training for researchers. HICT’s workshop will cover a set of topics focusing especially on pitching and presentation skills: e.g. how can I speak about my research in a clear, convincing, and inspiring way? How can I take into account different audiences?

The training builds around one pre-assignment and one teaching session including tasks that the students will complete together with two coaches from Kaskas Media. Students will be credited 1 ECTS if they complete the session, pre-assignment and write a small learning diary (1 page). You will get more instructions after the registration.

Note! Participants will also be expected to present their research pitch in public at a further HICT or HIIT event.

When: 22nd  October, 2018 at 12-15.30 (including break with coffee and buns)

Where: Otaniemi, CS building (Konemiehentie 2), seminar room T4

Pre-assignment: Prepare and practice a one-minute pitch about your research for the target audience (other researchers in ICT field).

Registration: Please, register through this link by 15th October.

The number of participants is limited to 20 and seats are filled in the order of registrations received. Priority will be given to HICT doctoral students (your supervisor needs to be a HICT supervising professor). Postdoctoral researchers and other researchers are welcome to attend if seats are available. You will receive a confirmation email about your registration on Tuesday 16th October. Participation (including coffee) is free of charge, but please note that registration is binding. In case you want to cancel your registration, please contact coordinator Aija Kukkala (email: firstname.lastname@aalto.fi) no later than 15th October.
